When it comes to the compact car segment, many new cars are available for under $20,000. For people looking to get a deal or on a budget, this is great. However, these vehicles often get labelled as "econoboxes" due to lacking many industry standard features. Today, we’re happy to show how the 2020 Hyundai Elantra stays affordable without sacrificing features.
Here’s our comparison for the 2020 Hyundai Elantra SE and SEL trims, both of which come in at under $20,000. Take a look and see which is right for you.
The 2020 Hyundai Elantra has six trims: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Limited, and Sport. The SE, SEL, Value Edition, and Limited all sport a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The engine is paired with a CVT. The Eco gets a 1.4-liter turbocharge four-cylinder that gets 128 horsepower and increased fuel efficiency, thanks to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Sport has a 201-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The SE is the 2020 Elantra base trim, but don’t let that fool you. It’s full to the brim with features. It has a 5-inch infotainment display, Bluetooth capability, a USB input/charging port, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The standard suite of safety features is robust, including a driver attention monitoring system, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a rearview camera. Cloth upholstery is standard.
The SEL trims is the next step up and it only sweetens the deal. Still coming in below $20,000, the SEL swaps out the 5-inch infotainment display with a 7-inch touchscreen. It also gains Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. Satellite radio is standard on this trim. New safety features include blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning.
