Having a hatchback is nice. It makes loading things in back easier, it often means more room for passengers, and it has a good look that many people love. However, you may be stuck between a traditional hatchback and a small crossover. With options like the Elantra GT and the Kona, we don’t blame you. Though neither option is necessarily better, we may be able to help you find out which one is right for you with our 2019 Hyundai Kona vs 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT comparison.

The price for both of these models is pretty comparable right off the bat, which may surprise you as you may expect the Elantra GT to start at a more affordable price than the Kona, but there’s a good reason for that. The Elantra GT only has two trim levels and the base level has a few more features than the base Kona such as a more powerful engine and a larger touchscreen.
The Kona does ramp things up with five trim levels including the limited edition Iron Man Edition which includes unique wheels, a matte gray finish, and LED daytime running lights. Below that special edition, the Kona Ultimate includes pedestrian detection, wireless device charging, and the 8-inch touchscreen that the Elantra GT includes standard.
The efficiency numbers are pretty similar with the Kona starting out stronger due to its more efficient engine. The Kona starts its engine lineup with a 2.0-liter engine that has 147 horsepower. The Limited, Ultimate, and Iron Man Edition all include a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with the 175 horsepower listed above. The Elantra GT starts with 161 horsepower on its base trim, and its top N-Line trim gives you a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 201-horsepower.
For many, the choice between these two will come down to looks and that last feature. The Kona has an option for all-wheel drive at all trim levels which isn’t an option at all on the Elantra GT. If that is important to you, then the Kona may be the option you are looking for.
